Alaska Fjordlines Deckhand Job Description

(May be combined with Ticket Office assistant position)

1-3 days a week, 12-hour/day 6:15am-9:30pm (2-3 hours off mid-day). $18-22/hr. DOE

Must be available to work mid-May to mid-September, evenings and weekends.

We are looking for hardworking, motivated, outgoing people that enjoy being on the water, love people, love wildlife and get excited about WHALES! You are the host and guide for 50 passengers on board the Fjordland. Your job is to greet and board passengers and luggage. You will provide information, sell tickets and merchandise, point out wildlife and provide natural history information. You will serve drinks, a continental breakfast and dinner. This is not an easy job, but it is very FUN and THRILLING! We take pride (and expect you to take a serious role) in a clean and tightly run boat with lots of attention to cleaning, organization and safety. You must be able to lift heavy freight and luggage. We expect you to maintain a positive attitude despite possible rough sea conditions and inclement weather. The boat will be docking 8 times each day and this requires serious attention to your safety, passenger safety and care for the boat. You are required to be a part of a random drug testing program and will be trained in CPR and First Aid and will be trained in Fire, Man Overboard, Abandon Ship and other safety drills.

Rain gear, fleece, crew shirt provided.

Alaska Fjordlines Reservations/Ticket Office Assistant Position

(May be combined with Deckhand position)

2-4 days per week, 4-8/hrs. per day. $18-$22/hr. DOE

Mid-May-to mid-September, hours and days will vary, must be able to work weekends.

We are looking for a friendly and outgoing person that can work independently, take reservations, answer emails & phone calls, take messages, maintain a reservation book and prepare passenger manifests. You will send out email updates about seat availability and communicate with the boat regarding passenger counts, new ticket sales and cancellations. You will help manage a photo and video library and assist with social media posting. Must be able to manage multiple projects at once, see tasks through without supervision, and work under pressure in a fast-paced office environment. You will wash and prepare trays, food and freight for the boat and take the supplies down to the boat dock. You will clean and organize supplies in the back room and keep the front office and sales area stocked and clean. You will oversee retail sales, and bike rentals.

Office Hours: Our office is open daily: 7:30am to 4:30-5:00pm.
