Frequently Asked Questions

Planning Your Trip

I have questions about my trip, who can I contact?

You can contact our office at 1 (800) 320-0146 or (907) 766-3395. Additionally, our email address is info@alaskafjordlines.com.

What is Alaska Fjordlines’ cancellation policy?
Cancellations must be made within 7 days of the departure date to receive a refund. Cancellations have a 10% fee.
Do you offer senior or military discounts?
We do not offer senior or military discounts.
Do I need a ticket or identification to board the boat?
Bringing a receipt/ticket/ID is not required, although it is a good idea to have your email confirmation pulled up on your phone just in case.
What does the inside and seating look like on the Fjordland?
There are 48 seats aboard the Fjordland. There are two sets of seats with tables, and the rest are in rows along both sides of the boat. Big windows span the entire length of the vessel, so even if you do not go on the back deck, you get a beautiful view of the Lynn Canal and all it has to offer!
Are there reserved seats?
There are no reserved seats. Your deckhand may reserve certain spots to keep families or large groups together, but otherwise, you are free to sit wherever you please!

Know Before You Go

What about the Canadian border?
The times for the Canadian border into Skagway are 7am-11:00pm Alaska time (or 8am-midnight Canada time). If you are driving into Skagway, make sure you are at the border early so you have plenty of time to make it to Skagway and find parking before checking in at the boat.
Where can I park my car/RV?
In Skagway, there is harbor parking available at the north end of the harbor and overflow parking available back across the railroad tracks at 2nd and Spring Street. In Haines, you can access any of the parking spaces in front of the small boat harbor. We recommend using the large lot along Front Street (to the right of the harbormaster’s cabin) since it has long spaces perfect for RVs.
How early do I need to arrive?
You are required to arrive 15 minutes earlier than your departure time.
How should I dress for the cruise, what should I bring?
Dress in layers, a warm layer and raincoat or windbreaker, comfortable shoes with good traction and a warm hat for spending time on the outside deck is advised. You can leave things on the boat while you are in Juneau.
Can I pay for tickets or merchandise using a credit card on board the boat during the trip?
Yes, if there is cell service, and most of the trip there is.
Can I bring my dog or cat on the boat?
We accept small dogs 20 lbs. and under that can remain by their owner’s side for the duration of the trip.
Can I bring my bicycle on the boat?
Bicycles are only allowed on trips between Skagway and Haines. Bikes cannot be taken to or from Juneau. Please make note of your booking if you plan to bring a bicycle.
Can I take my car on the boat?
The Fjordland is strictly a passenger vessel and does not take vehicles.
What if I have a wheelchair or mobility issue?
If you have a wheelchair or scooter, please make note while booking or contacting the office so we can make proper accommodation. If you need a wheelchair but do not have it, we have one at our office. While we do our best to accommodate every passenger, there are potential barriers that are out of our control and are important to consider. Southeast Alaska has varying tides with the potential to make harbor ramps very steep. Additionally, passengers may have to step over a rail or slight gap to board. We do not have a ramp onto the boat, so those with wheelchairs or scooters will need to be able to at least step on. Our crew is happy to lend a helping hand to those who need it.

One-Way Passengers

Luggage
Each passenger is allowed one 40 lb. suitcase and one carry-on on-board the boat not to exceed 50 pounds total. If your luggage exceeds the 50 lb. limit or you have extra bags, you must pay the extra luggage fee when booking or on the day of travel. Luggage is stored on the back deck during the duration of the trip under a covered area.
What is a safe time to make a connecting flight?
If you are using the Fjord Express to connect to the Juneau airport, we recommend booking your flight no earlier than 1pm.

Getting to the Small Boat Harbors in Skagway, Haines or Juneau.

Where does the boat depart in Skagway?

The Fjordland departs Skagway from the end of the last float at the Small Boat Harbor (295 Congress Way). DO NOT GO TO THE ALASKA STATE FERRY TERMINAL! To get to the harbor, drive through Skagway and turn onto 2nd Avenue. Go past the White Pass RR depot over the tracks and the road will turn onto Congress Way. Go past Pullen Creek and RV Park, then turn right into the harbor parking lot at the north end of the harbor. If you take the blue ramp closest to the waterfront and walk all the way down the float, you should see our sign.

Where does the boat depart in Haines?

The Fjordland departs from Haines from the Small Boat Harbor (32 Front Street). DO NOT GO TO THE ALASKA STATE FERRY TERMINAL! Check in at the office between 8am-8:15am or 8:15am at the top of the ramp at the harbormaster’s office (the little cabin with the brown tin roof). The office person will walk you down to the boat when it arrives at 8:30am.

On the Boat

Are food and beverages available on the Fjordland? Can I bring food and beverages aboard?
We serve complimentary meals, coffee and hot tea on both the southbound and northbound portions of the trip. For breakfast, we serve a delicious blueberry muffin with a crisp apple. For dinner, we serve our renowned smoked salmon chowder with sourdough bread and a cookie. We also have a variety of cold drinks available for purchase. For special diets and for your own personal needs, you are more than welcome to bring your own snacks and drinks aboard.
Can I smoke on the boat?
No, we are a non-smoking vessel. This also includes E-cigarettes and vapes.
Is there a gift shop onboard?
We sell our merchandise on the boat! Ask the deckhand if you would like to buy something. Cash is always best for small purchases.
Do you have access to Wi-Fi?
There is no Wi-Fi, although there is cell service through most of the Lynn Canal.
Is the boat ride rough? Will I get seasick?
Our boat handles the waves like a dream, so it is rare for people to feel queasy. If you tend to get motion sickness, you can take Dramamine before boarding as a precautionary measure.
When is the best time for wildlife and whale watching? What will we see?
Every day is a good day for wildlife viewing and whale watching in Lynn Canal. We see whales, sea lions, seals, eagles and porpoises almost every day. But where we see them and what they are doing can change day to day.
